Parenting Toddlers

A toddler is a young child, usually defined as being between the ages of one and three ( from Wikipedia). A toddler is full of energy and it’s the time he learns about different things, grows physically and mentally, engage in lots of mischief and it’s the time parents enjoy the most. The experiences a toddler gets becomes the baseline for his personality. So parents should give much care for raising up a child through the toddler phase.

· Spend enough time with your kids. Most working parents doesn’t get enough chance to enjoy the wonderful moments with their toddler. Usually, the grand parents or the house maids steal this chance. But this should not be the case. Parents should find time to spend meaningfully with their kids.

· Talk a lot with your kids no matter whether they listen carefully or not. Talk about all the beautiful things that they can understand. They may listen very few things but still speak out.

· Play with your kids. By doing this, kids will find their first and best friend in you. And that feeling will last for the whole life.

· Teach them lots of rhymes. Sing it several times. Sometimes they may not show any interest. But when you sing it 10 times or more, kids tend to by heart it and starts singing it back. Singing rhymes improves their pronunciation.

· Enrich your kids with lots of good stories. When you tell him a story, keep looking at his face. You can see how much he is excited.

· Take photos and videos of the finest moments with your kids. Surely both you and your kids will love watching it later

· Allow your kid to help you in the activities that he likes involve in. sometimes we think these are “not for kids” activities.. like cooking, nurturing plants etc. But kids love to help you in these. Give them small activities and opportunities to help you.

· If you are staying away from your parents, then make sure you visit them often with your kids. Kids will enjoy their time with grandparents and it helps in their personal growth.

· Familiarize your kids with variety of nutritious foods. Vegetables, fruits, nuts .. etc. Let them learn to eat well. Also tell him the importance of each food , for e.g. when you give him carrots, tell him it helps to improve his eye sight.

· Have day outs with your kids. Visit Zoo, parks, beaches, gardens. Take him for a boating, train journey, or a flight. Often you can remind him of the journey you had last week and make him say what and all he saw or enjoy.

The list doesn’t ends here. As our child grows, develops, learns, and matures, so does our parenting role. Kids will grow fast. you may wonder seeing him a small crawling baby some days back and now walking, running. Remember, you won’t get this time back in your life.
